On Wednesday, Burger King pledged that it is committing to using only cage-free chickens and pigs in its restaurants. This new policy will be phased in over time and will fully be in effect by 2017. They will be the first U.S. fast-food chain to make such a promise. Burger King uses hundreds of millions of eggs and tens of millions of pounds of pork annually so this decision will make an impact on animal welfare.
While FARMetarians believe that “cage-free” alone isn’t enough, it’s certainly a step in the right direction and we applaud Burger King for this decision. We also are excited at the rise in popularity and demand for humanely raised animal products! Let’s keep it up – spread the word and let our voices be heard!
